Sam Darnold will have a new home and much-needed fresh start this offseason. The former USC star has reached an agreement to sign a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers, per multiple reports.
The 49ers’ current quarterback depth is shaky, at least at the moment. Rookie sensation Brock Purdy just underwent successful surgery and will need several months to recover.
That leaves former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance. The North Dakota State alum is working his way back from a season-ending injury as well.
Darnold will give the Niners some much-needed depth and experience for the 2023 season.

Sam Arnold’s NFL career has been a frustrating journey for the former USC star. His Jets tenure was a disaster and he dealt with coaching changes in Carolina.
Now, he heads to one of the best-run franchise in the NFL in the San Francisco 49ers. For all we know, Darnold could see his career revived working with Kyle Shanahan, otherwise known as one of the league’s best quarterback whisperers.
Darnold will presumably be the Niners’ No. 3 quarterback behind Lance and Purdy next season.
