The last 24 hours have been rough for New York Jets fans who had assumed the team was a shoo-in to acquire Aaron Rodgers.
First, the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero indicated that the Jets and Green Bay Packers had “not agreed to the framework of an Aaron Rodgers trade.”
And now, Rodgers is dropping social media hints that he’s not close to making a decision.
As observed by Dov Kleiman, Rodgers liked an interesting tweet from Packers teammate Rasul Douglas.

Wisconsin-based journalist Gary Ellerson asked why members of the Packers weren’t showing the level of effort to retain Rodgers as the Jets. In response, Douglas quote-tweeted Ellerson and wrote the following.
“Because we have his number. We can actually text him instead of writing it on social media. As our leader he knows how each person on the roster feels about him.”
Rodgers liking this tweet could be interpreted in a number of ways. Chiefly, Aaron could just be showing appreciation for the kind words from his veteran teammate. Being referred to as “our leader” in midst of Rodgers’ turbulent offseason is high praise.
Or, Rodgers and Douglas- in addition to other veteran Packers- may know that more is going on behind the scenes than the public is aware of. If this tweet serves as any indication, Rodgers may be interested in retaining his status as the Packers’ leader in 2023.
