The Cincinnati Bengals are expected to lock up star quarterback Joe Burrow with a lucrative, long-term deal — perhaps as soon as this offseason.
But in the event that takes longer than anticipated, the franchise has bought itself at least two more years with Burrow behind center.
The Bengals have exercised the fifth-year option on Burrow’s rookie contract, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. That would pay Burrow $32.416 million in 2024 if he does not sign a new contract before then.

Burrow has been spectacular since the Bengals picked him first overall in 2020. He led the franchise to a Super Bowl berth in 2021 and earned a Pro Bowl invitation plus finished fourth in MVP voting last season.
Burrow currently holds the NFL’s all-time record for completion percentage at 68.2 percent.
More than likely, Burrow will make a lot more money than $32 million in 2024. He is widely expected to receive a new contract in line with the five-year, $255 million deal Jalen Hurts just signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.
