Damar Hamlin’s football-playing future has become a major topic of discussion over recent weeks.
In early-February, NFLPA medical director Thom Mayer “guaranteed” that Hamlin would return to playing professional football. Days later, NFL medical director Allen Sills challenged Mayer’s stance, saying, “It’s his decision… and he is the person that will need to drive that decision, and then we’ll all line up and support that.”
Now, over a month after talks about Hamlin’s potential return to football began to surface, Bills general manager Brandon Beane has provided the NFL world with a noteworthy update on the situation.
According to ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg, Beane visited with Hamlin a few days ago and revealed that he “definitely” has the intention to play. Per Getzenberg, Beane knows Hamlin has at least one more doctor visit lined up, but says it’s “trending in the right direction.”

Beane also revealed what’s next for the Buffalo safety.
“We’ll get him through all [medical consultations] and then we’ll make sure all of our medical people are hearing all those opinions on each visit and make sure that we’re all on the same page of what it would look like,” the Bills GM said.
Hamlin himself has previously shared that he’d “eventually” like to play again.
In a mid-February interview which aired ahead of Super Bowl LVII, Hamlin said, “Eventually. That’s always the goal, like I said, as a competitor, you know, I’m trying to do things to keep advancing my situation… But I’m allowing that to be in God’s hands. I’m just thankful he gave me a second chance.”
We will continue to stay on the lookout for any updates about Hamlin’s potential return to playing football.
