Several weeks ago, reports surfaced that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers planned to release former first-round pick Leonard Fournette and veteran tight end Cameron Brate around the start of the new league year.
This Friday, those two moves became official.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported this afternoon that Tampa Bay has officially released Fournette and Brate. They are now free agents with the ability to sign with any team of their choosing.

Fournette, 28, was selected No. 4 overall by the Jaguars in the 2017 NFL Draft.
He spent the first three seasons of his NFL career in Jacksonville before joining the Bucs in 2019. Fournette’s two most productive campaigns came during his first and third year with the Jaguars, tallying 1,040 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns in his rookie year and posting 1,152 rushing yards, 522 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his third NFL season.
Brate, 31, has spent his entire nine-year NFL career in Tampa Bay. An undrafted free agent signing of the Buccaneers in 2014, Brate’s best season came in 2016 when he logged career-highs in receptions (57), receiving yards (660) and touchdowns (8).
Expect both former Buccaneers to land on new teams this offseason.
