For some teams this offseason, the most valuable moves will be keeping its prized assets off the open market.
This was the case for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who’ve reportedly inked cornerback Jamel Dean to a four-year contract worth $52 million.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter had the scoop.

The expected signing will carry $26 million guaranteed for the Auburn product; a far cry from the $2.54 million Dean made in 2022.
Dean, who started a career-high 15 games for the Buccaneers last season, prioritized remaining in Tampa Bay. According to Jordan Schultz of theScore, Jamel turned down more lucrative offers in favor of remaining with Todd Bowles’ squad.

With Dean re-signed and Carlton Davis inked to a contract extension last offseason, Tampa Bay will have a pair of starting cornerbacks who bring untapped potential.

While the two-day negotiating period of legal tampering is barely underway, the class of available cornerbacks has already taken quite a hit.
In addition to Dean, Patrick Peterson is now off the board, as is Danny Johnson, Jonathan Jones, and Cameron Sutton.
Teams looking to bolster their cornerback depth without going the draft or trade route will assess options such as Marcus Peters, Shaquill Griffin, James Bradberry, and Eli Apple.
