The Super Bowl champions are adding to their defense via the NFL free agent market.
They’re getting a player with plenty of experience in the AFC West in the process.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that free agent linebacker Drue Tranquill has agreed to a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. The deal will pay Tranquill a maximum of $5 million.
Sources: 1 year, up to $5M for Drue Tranquill to the #Chiefs, who I’m told chose Kansas City over five other suitors. https://t.co/NjlxDZVhlk

Tranquill, a former standout at Notre Dame, spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Los Angeles Chargers. He emerged as a full-time starter for the first time in 2022, starting 16 of the Chargers’ 17 contests.
Tranquill racked up 146 tackles, five sacks and an interception. His tackle total fanked 12th among all NFL players.
Tranquill should provide some depth to a Chiefs linebacker corps that also has Nick Bolton and Willie Gay Jr. under contract for 2023. He is the second defensive player to join the Chiefs roster since free agency opened, joining former San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu.
