The Kansas City Chiefs have been active in free agency this Friday.
On top of signing former Chargers linebacker Drue Tranquill to a one-year deal this afternoon, the Chiefs have also reportedly added a versatile defensive back to their secondary.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Kansas City franchise has signed former Bucs safety Mike Edwards to a one-year deal worth $3 million. It can reach $5 million with incentives, Rapoport said.

Edwards was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers. He started seven games during his rookie campaign, including the final two to end the season.
The Kentucky product has displayed versatility in his young NFL career, as he’s suited up at both safety and slot corner in the Bucs’ secondary. He tallied a career-high three interceptions in 2022, with two of those being returned for touchdowns.
Expect Edwards, 26, to provide the Chiefs with more flexibility in their defensive backfield in 2023. While he may not immediately jump into a full-time starter role, he’ll likely get plenty of looks and should thrive in speciality packages.
