Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. held a workout Friday to show NFL teams that he has fully recovered from the torn ACL he suffered during Super Bowl LVI.
The team that has received more buzz than any other to sign Beckham was, surprisingly, not in attendance.
Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that no one from the Dallas Cowboys attended Beckham’s workout.
However, that doesn’t mean the Cowboys are out on Beckham. In fact, Hill said the Cowboys are “comfortable with the player” and didn’t need to see more in order to pursue him.
The Cowboys did not send anyone to Odell Beckham Jr's workout in Phoenix. But that doesn't reflect a lack of interest. They are comfortable with the player. Jerry Jones was wowed by his momma.
It will come down to finances and there are other teams in the mix— Clarence Hill Jr (@clarencehilljr) March 10, 2023
“The Cowboys did not send anyone to Odell Beckham Jr’s workout in Phoenix,” Hill tweeted. “But that doesn’t reflect a lack of interest. They are comfortable with the player. Jerry Jones was wowed by his momma. It will come down to finances and there are other teams in the mix.”
Beckham initially visited the Cowboys during the 2022 season, when it was widely thought that he would sign with the team for the stretch run. However, concern about his surgically repaired knee kept him on the sidelines.
As noted by Hill, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke with Beckham’s mother recently as part of the team’s pursuit of Beckham.
Beckham was released by the Cleveland Browns midway through the 2021 season and signed with the Los Angeles Rams. He showed some of his early-career explosiveness, catching 48 passes for 593 yards and seven touchdowns across 12 games and helping lead the team to a Super Bowl win.
While free agency for the rest of the NFL doesn’t open until Wednesday, Beckham is free to sign at any point. Hill reported that his decision “will come down to finances.”
Among the other teams interested in Beckham’s services figure to be the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner fueled speculation about Beckham signing with the team on Friday when he tweeted a screenshot of himself FaceTiming with Beckham.
