The Dallas Cowboys’ front office has made it clear that it wants to keep Dak Prescott behind center for a long time, talking openly about signing Prescott to a contract extension.
The team is keeping his backup in Dallas, as well.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Cowboys have reportedly agreed to a new contract with Cooper Rush. The deal will pay him a maximum of $6 million across two seasons.

Rush, who became a free agent earlier this week, has spent his entire five-year career with the Cowboys.
He has started six games across the past two seasons in place of an injured Prescott, including two in 2022, and performed well. The Cowboys have a record of 6-1 in those contests. Rush threw for 1,051 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions last season.
Rush likely drew some interest from other teams around the NFL, but not as a starter. So he opted to return to the system that he knows.
Cowboys fans will hope they don’t have to see Rush in 2023. But they should feel reassured knowing they have a proven, solid option backing up Prescott.
