The Las Vegas Raiders have a new quarterback coming to town, but wide receiver Davante Adams may not approve of his new throwing partner.
On Monday, Jimmy Garoppolo and the Raiders agreed to a three-year, $73 million contract, which can be officially signed on Wednesday, when free agency and the new league year formally start.
The move came at the seeming disapproval of Adams, per his cryptic message on Instagram. If Adams does want Garoppolo at the helm, then at the very least, he doesn’t want to discuss it with anyone.
“If we haven’t talked in three weeks don’t hit me about this s—. Thanks,” he wrote on his Instagram story.
The post has since been deleted from Adams’ Instagram, and he took to Twitter to clarify his message.
“Don’t make too much of it… phone dry then here comes everybody tryna get the inside scoop. S— is annoying thats it. Jimmy let’s get this,” Adams said.

Adams’ frustration could lie in the fact that he was traded to Las Vegas last year in part because he wanted to play with Derek Carr, the New Orleans Saints’ new starting quarterback. Adams spent the first eight years of his career with the Green Bay Packers before joining the Raiders in 2022.
Last season, Adams caught 100 receptions for 1,516 yards and 14 touchdowns. It was his third consecutive 1,000+ yard season.
Garoppolo isn’t a shoe-in to start in Las Vegas. The Raiders hold the No. 7 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, which they might trade up for in order to land the prospect of their choice. There are four quarterbacks considered to be Top 10 material in this year’s draft — Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Will Levis and Anthony Richardson — and a handful of quarterback-needy teams ahead of the Raiders.
If the Raiders draft a quarterback, Garoppolo could become a backup, mentor or competitor for the starting job. Either way, Adams, as he said, is ready to win with Garoppolo on the roster.
