Lions Release Two Players In Response To Gambling Suspensions

The Detroit Lions have released wideout Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore this Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

Cephus and Moore reportedly bet on games during the 2022 season, prompting indefinite suspensions from the NFL today. Three other players were also suspended by the league this afternoon – Lions’ Stanley Berryhill and Jameson Williams as well as Shaka Toney of the Commanders.

Cephus, Moore, and Toney were given indefinite suspensions while Berryhill and Williams received six games as punishment.

The reasoning behind the differing suspensions appears to be the type of bets placed during the 2022 season. Berryhill and Williams reportedly placed wagers on non-NFL games from an NFL facility, which is not allowed by the league.

Cephus, Moore and Toney, on the other hand, appear to have bet on NFL games last season. Similar to the suspension handed out to Jaguars wideout Calvin Ridley last year, each received an indefinite suspension and will have to wait a year to be able to petition for reinstatement.
