Longtime Bengals RB Announces NFL Retirement After 10 Seasons

Giovani Bernard was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

10 years later, and in the hours leading up to Round 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft this Friday, Bernard has announced that he’s hanging up the cleats for good.

The longtime Bengals running back took to Twitter today to share that he’s officially retiring from the NFL.

In a series of tweets, Bernard revealed what he’s learned in his decade spent in the NFL.

“10 years ago, I came into this league grateful,” Bernard said. “Grateful for what God has done for me to get to that moment and to celebrate all the obstacles that were overcome. And now fast forward 10 years, I leave humbled. Humbled by the experiences, relationships, and memories that have shaped me during this time.”

Between the eight years he spent with the Bengals and the two years he spent in Tampa Bay, Bernard ends his NFL career with 3,783 rushing yards and 36 total touchdowns.

And while he didn’t explicitly state what’s next, Bernard did share that he’s excited for his post-playing days.

“As I look forward, I’m excited for the newness ahead,” Bernard tweeted. “New challenges to face and new adventures to take. What a ride it’s been, but what a ride is to come.”

We’d like to wish Giovani Bernard the best as he enters the next chapter of his life.
