In the two seasons since Pittsburgh’s 12-4 campaign in 2020, the team has hovered above .500 in a pair of underwhelming years.
GM Omar Khan is looking to get back to winning ways in 2023, as evidenced by the team’s reported signing of Patrick Peterson.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the agreement is a two-year pact.
Steelers gave former Vikings’ CB Patrick Peterson a two-year contract, per source. He wanted to play at least two more seasons, so contract matches his wishes.

Peterson is four seasons removed from his last Pro Bowl selection, but the 32-year-old remains a more-than-capable starter in the league.
In 2022, Peterson started all 17 of the Minnesota Vikings’ games while securing five interceptions.

According to US Today’s Josh Carney, it’s very likely that former Pittsburgh Steeler Bryant McFadden played a role in the recruitment of Peterson.
“Former Steelers CB Bryant McFadden undoubtedly had a hand in helping Patrick Peterson pick Pittsburgh in FA. They host a podcast together. Very likely gave him the inside info on Mike Tomlin, Steelers culture, etc. Really cool signing.”

There’s no questioning Peterson’s career-long bonafides. Between his time on the Arizona Cardinals and Vikings he’s been a menace to quarterbacks and has his legacy cemented as a generational talent.
But, as fans have indicated on Twitter, his durability and high level of play to this day is what makes this reported signing terrific for Pittsburgh.
“Patrick Peterson is a HOFer. He’s 32, so some concern with the age, but the man balled out last year,” Donald Chedrick wrote on Twitter.
“5 INT, 15 PD, 66 tackles in 17 games. An 80.7 PFF grade. And he’s rarely been hurt throughout his career. Love the signing.”
