After being released by the Tennessee Titans last month, it didn’t take veteran wide receiver Robert Woods long to catch on with a new NFL team.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Friday that Woods has signed a two-year contract with the Houston Texans. The deal will pay him $10 million guaranteed with a maximum value of $17 million.

As noted by Rapoport, Woods will provide some veteran leadership to an offense that is expected to be headlined by a rookie quarterback in 2023. Woods has played 10 NFL seasons, five of them with the Los Angeles Rams.
Woods, who started his career with the Buffalo Bills, put together the best stretch of his career from 2018-20 with the Rams. He caught at least 86 passes in each of those campaigns, scored 14 total touchdowns and twice eclipsed 1,000 yards.
He was on pace for similar numbers in 2021 when a torn ACL ended his season after nine games.
That led the Rams to let Woods sign elsewhere in free agency. Whether because he was still recovering from his knee injury or because of the Titans’ passing game woes (the team ranked 30th in the NFL in passing offense last season), Woods’ numbers dipped in 2022. He caught 53 passes for 527 yards and two touchdowns on the year.
Woods’ signing will likely lead to further speculation that the Texans will trade the other veteran receiver currently on their roster: Brandin Cooks. Cooks reportedly wanted a trade during last season, and his name has popped up in trade rumors again this month.
